The following table compares the compulsory code for a gloss document to be converted into XHTML, and then the object XHTML code when glossed with the xhtml MV file (Laid out to show the inclusion).
Gloss Code | XHTML Code |
---|---|
html { | <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:m="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <head> <title>...</title> </head> <body> ... </body> </html> |
By using the xhtml.mv MV file, the glosser knows to include the XML declaration (<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
) and the attributes in the html tag. The user does not have to type them in the Gloss source code.
Using a similar table I will compare some Gloss source code of basic tags with their object XHTML code.
Gloss Code | XHTML Code |
---|---|
p [A paragraph] | <p>A paragraph</p> |
h1 [A header of level 1] | <h1>A header of level 1</h1> |
h4 [A header of level 4] | <h4>A header of level 4</h4> |
ol |
<ol> |

I recommend trying some of these tags in your own 'test' gloss source document. Take the compulsory code from above, and then place the example tags in the body section. Play around with them, save your document with extension .xhtml.gloss and then gloss your file. Open your object XHTML file in a browser of your choice to see what you get.
